In October 2022, a joint project entitled "Recycling - Use of Recyclate for Technical Products" will start at the Kunststoff-Institut Lüdenscheid and run for 1.5 years.

Due to the high importance of the topic of sustainability in the plastics industry, the topic of recyclate use is currently occupying many companies. However, the obstacles to using recycled material are still very high in some cases. This is due, among other things, to aspects such as procurement, price and material quality.

Using recyclates in existing processes and products for technical applications

The current joint project "Recycling - Use of recyclate for technical products", which will already start in October 2022, is intended to support the use of recyclates in existing processes and products for technical applications. In order to successfully enable the use of secondary plastics, the Kunststoff-Institut is developing a practical and systematic approach in the project.

Market overview of procurement options for recycled materials

In addition to a detailed presentation of the applicable regulatory framework and answers to the most pressing questions concerning the use of recycled materials, the project offers a market overview of procurement options for recycled materials. In practical tests, various recyclates will be classified in terms of their quality according to DIN SPEC 91446 and examined in combination with virgin materials with regard to their mechanical and rheological properties.

Marker technology to increase recyclability

In addition, the so-called marker technology is being considered, in which the recyclability of plastic products can be increased by using marker additives to label the components and provide them with specific information. This technology is being focused on against the background of the development of new business models in the form of deposit systems for the company's own plastic parts.
