Micro- and nanotechnologies in the spotlight:expert discussion at the 16th annual World Micromachine Summit in Dortmund.

Last week the international micro- and nanotechnology community met in Dortmund, Germany on the occasion of the 16th international Micromachine Summit. The summits is an annual conference, which shows a snapshot of industrial, scientific and political micro and nano activities worldwide. The event was initiated in 1995 by the Micromachine Center in Japan. This year, about 100 delegates from some 20 nations held a meeting about „AAL-Ambient Assisted Living“ and disscussed improvements and political strategies of the countries with a view to funding and the utilization of new technologies.

Germany Presents Itself as Supplier for the High-tech Factories of the World at the HANNOVER MESSE

Experts from the US, Europa and Asia agree: Many markets are currently accelerating. That was on the agenda of the „Innovations for Industry“-forum in Hall 6. Karen Lightmann, spokesperson of the US-MEMS Industry Group, reported that the US industry is finally growing significantly more optimistic after a tough downslide. Richard Dixon of iSupply confirmed this with regard to the US-automobile industry.

Executive board was re-elected

General Meeting of IVAM e.V continues to favor the five-member board. Dr. Frank Bartels from Bartels Mikrotechnik GmbH was re-elected as president and Dr. Thomas Kritzler was confirmed as vice-chairman. The other executive committee members, Dr. Lutz Aschke from LIMO Lissotschenko Mikrooptik GmbH, Dr. Olaf Kiesewetter from UST – Umweltsensortechnik GmbH and Dr. Hans van den Vlekkert from LioniX BV were reconfirmed as well.

A convincing concept: ACEOS GmbH was awarded the 2. IVAM-Marketingprize

The company ACEOS from Fürth/Germany received the 2nd IVAM-Marketingprize. The award ceremony took place within a networking event in the industrial museum “Zeche Zollern“, Dortmund on March 25. The event was organized by the IVAM Microtechnology Network in cooperation with the network pro Ruhrgebiet. Jury member Prof. Klaus Meerholz handed over the award to two ACEOS-representatives: Dr. Markus Schotters, CEO, accepted the prize together with Gunnar Jung, director product management.

CORONA Review Meeting – Further progress in the development of MEMS products

The EU-funded project CORONA aims at a more rapid development of MEMS products. This is done with the help of new software tools. Current information about prototypes and already commercially available software will be presented in spring at the HANNOVER MESSE 2010. The new tools – whether as add-on to existing software or as complete new developments – allow cost savings and shorter time-to-market in MEMS product development.
