Feb 15, 2016
The president of Argentina, Dr. Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner, inaugurated the new headquarters of the Argentinian Nanotechnology Foundation. The video conference took place in Gral. San Martin, Buenos Aires. It was led by the minister, Dr. Lino Barañao. Further participants were the foundation’s president, Daniel Lupi, University’s Rector, Dr. Carlos Rut, San Martin’s mayor, Dr. Gabriel Katopodis, and the Technological Services Director of Nanofab, Dr. Juan José Ortiz.

In communication with the president, the minister explained that “nanotechnology is revolutionizing all of the industrial sectors and this is why the Foundation was created, to link knowledge with entrepreneurs who turn it into productive activities”. At the same time, the minister highlighted the Nanofab project that incubates companies and explained: “Here we have researchers from different universities working on advanced projects, developing products which impact on Argentinian economy”. In the end, Dr. Barañao assured: “The Foundation represents the goal of converting science into productive activity, transforming knowledge into wealth."

Meanwhile, the president of the nation commended the foundation and assured: “Nanotechnology will define scientific and technological development in our country the next decades because it is involved in all areas: food, health, microelectronics. It makes us realize the future world’s complexity”

With a total covered area of 1,600m2, the Foundation’s building required a total investment of $20,270,000. The construction is structured on two floors. On the ground floor there are four incubation rooms with 100m2 each, a multipurpose room of 80m2 and an elevator for heavy loads. On the top floor there are seven closed and two open offices, two capacitation rooms, one meeting room and a dining area with a kitchen.

The building is completed with Nanofab, a national technology platform that makes possible the research and inversion of development, innovation and transfer projects of nanotechnology. It has a meeting room, offices and production room for research groups or SMEs which need infrastructure to carry out developments.

The purpose of the Argentinian Nanotechnology Foundation is to promote the added value generation for national production, for internal market consumption and the inclusion of local industry on international markets.
