Comelec is a swiss SME specialised since 1979 in the Parylene coating and supplying both a coating service center as well as customised Parylene equipments. Comelec can deliver solutions for the most complex needs. Indeed, the R&D team supports production for customer special requests as much as improving processes and developing new solutions.
Parylene coating is produced under vacuum thanks to a Vacuum Deposition Polymerization (VDP) process, very similar to CVD. Deposition temperature is very low, typically 25°C to 100°C, making this coating very useful for final protection of heat or stress sensitive devices.
Parylene is a primary choice as an environmental protection for high technology, conformal coating requirement. However, it has become more and more accessible for common applications. Parylene combines the dual properties of dielectric insulation and environmental protection (moisture, solvent, acidic and base solutions), the properties of electronic sensors and PCB and ferrites, as well as consolidating them. Approved by the FDA, Parylene C (and N) can be used used in long-term implantable medical devices. The film can be employed as solid lubricant and electrical insulator on wire guides, as well as stents, implantable electrodes, pace makers and hypodermic needles. Applications in the medical and pharmacology fields are growing almost daily.
Comelec is actively involved in R&D projects and collaborates with many european research centers. Lately, developement of Parylene based multilayers for high hermiticity encapsulation and also antimicrobial Parylene coatings have led to very promising results.
